Giving a Toast without Losing Your Lunch

You know how in rom com Christmas movies, there’s almost always the Awkward Office Christmas Party scene?

The not-yet-but-soon-to-be lovers (who are also office rivals) stand at opposite ends of the room, holding their cheap plastic cups of wine. Then the poor lady who chose the short straw (let’s call her Nancy) has to stand up and give a toast to the evil-or-buffoonish boss, thanking him for a great year and telling him that everyone is so grateful for the wonderful office environment they get to slog away in every day. It’s a terrible speech, let’s be honest, because Nancy hates giving speeches and also her subject matter leaves something to be desired. So she tries, but her speech kind of… sucks.

But worry not, fans of rom coms, because this is the moment when our not-yet-but-soon-to-be lovers lock eyes from across the room and share a look, knowing they are both laughing at Nancy. Hooray! Their sense of humor is a match. Let’s get them stuck in the elevator, stat!

But what about poor Nancy? Forced to give a toast when all she wanted was to be home in her reindeer slippers sipping eggnog by her plug-in fire. She didn’t want to spend the last 4 days worrying about the speech, practicing it over and over again in the bathroom mirror, buying a new blouse, googling “jokes for toasts,” and generally losing her lunch!

And if this was a movie about Nancy, her “knight in shining armor”... well, that would be me.

Because if Protagonist Nancy had hired her friendly neighborhood public speaking coach, she would have gotten a 30 minute 1:1 coaching call followed by a personalized set of tools that made speech giving actually fun. Turning her from a plot point into the main event.

Want to be the protagonist - and not a plot point in someone else’s meet cute -  this toast-giving season?  Jump on a Raise Your Glass call with me. It’s fun, it’s easy, and it’s 50% off my regular coaching rates.

Cheers!

ps. Not into toasts? Use this session to work on any public speaking issue you have. In just 30 minutes, I’ll asses your needs and blocks. Then, I’ll follow that up by sending a curated set of lessons just for you.
