Your Preshow Checklist

There’s an exhilaration to nailing a talk on stage. And when you see someone else do it, it can look effortless. But there’s a lot that goes into that moment behind the scenes. Checking and double checking that you have everything dialed in is part of the gig. But when it’s not your wheelhouse, it can feel overwhelming.

This checklist can help you go from overwhelmed to grounded, knowing you’re in control of as much as possible.

Public Speaking Preshow Checklist (in-person edition)

  • Lights: Know where you need to stand to be “in your light.”

  • Mic: Know what kind of microphone you’ll be using and how to hold or wear it properly.

  • Slides/tech: Do a run through with the tech staff and get familiar with the remote interface.

  • Staging: Walk the space to find the most powerful positions to speak from. Check “blind spots.”

  • Auditorium: Check distance to the back wall, acoustics, and note any interruption points.

  • Backstage: Find your pre-talk spot for your “moment before” and mindset work.

  • Warm up: Do your 5-minute vocal and physical warm up.

Download this checklist and use it before any in person speaking opportunity!

Break a leg,
