How I Got Through

Recently, I’ve talked to you a lot about speaking vulnerably and sharing personal stories to engage your audience.

Today, I’m practicing what I preach by sharing one of the most personal interviews I’ve ever done.

In conversation with Kara Flowers (a phenomenal interviewer) on the How Does She Do It? podcast, I share:

  • my personal burnout story

  • how I struggled to navigate high-performance and perfectionism in my dream job

  • when I realized I’d hit rock bottom by returning to work less than 24 hours after a pregnancy loss

  • how I transformed from full time arts leader to coach (and why)

  • what living a life focused on balance looks and feels like

Listen in to hear why cultivating presence, letting go of control, and harnessing the power of authentic communication is a profound key to success.

^^ This is a photo of the production I was directing when I realized I had burned out completely. What saved me? Sharing honestly about what was going on with trusted collaborators. To this day, that production is one of the best things I’ve ever directed, and I give a lot of credit for that to the fact that I brought vulnerability to the process. Speaking truthfully became the key to being able to show up and do my job.

After you’ve listened, come back and comment. What resonated with you?
